Daring Greatly - Brené Brown

A day of shopping is never complete without buying a book. I enjoy walking in bookstores and just scanning through numerous books before I decide what to purchase. When I saw Brené Brown's name on the shelves however, I immediately got the book and purchased it.

A book about Daring Greatly, about living your life with courage, about being vulnerable and at the same time strong. Reading this book I learned that it is ok to fail, it is ok to be vulnerable and that you are not alone going through these emotions and thoughts.

Here I share a very small selection of lessons I learned reading this book:

1.  'A 2010 poll conducted by Zogby International for WBI (Workplace Bullying Institute) reported that an estimated 54 million American workers (37 percent of the US workforce) have been bullied at work. Furthermore, another WBI report revealed that 52.5% of the time, bullied workers reported that employers did nothing to stop the bullying.'

2. 'Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It's a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well, can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity' - Pema Chödrön

3. 'Vulnerability is based on mutuality and requires boundaries and trust. It's not oversharing, it's not purging, it's not indiscriminate disclosure, and it's not celebrity-style social media information dumps. Vulnerability is about sharing  our feelings and our experiences with people who have earned the right to hear them. Being vulnerable and open is mutual and an integral part of the trust-building process.'

4. 'Exactly!' Sirius told Harry to listen to him very carefully. Then he said, 'You're not a bad person. You're a very good person who bad things have happened to. Besides, the world isn't split into good people and Death Eaters. We've all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are." - a reference to Harry Potter'
