Why Is Youth Work So Important?

Working with Youth Groups is always very challenging.
Young people coming from different backgrounds trying to figure out what is going on around and inside of them is what makes youth work so special.
Development of skills such as teamwork, leadership, creative thinking, risk - taking and problem solving are just some of the competences developed through Youth Work.
And even though many governments around the world do not take this seriously, they do not really understand how important and vital this is for our society.

It is amazing and rewarding to see children coming from disadvantaged backgrounds playing music by being part of an orchestra (see website here). Most of these children do not have the financial stability and family support to receive music tuition. Through this youth programs, they are able to feel like they belong in a team (an orchestra), and feel capable to play an instrument vital to the whole team. The escape from their everyday problems can be expressed through music, through their music community and friends as well as the support of the teachers and volunteers around them.

It is even more impressive to see that some Youth Place might just provide the place and facilities for young people to just escape from their terrifying reality and have a place where they can socialize, play football, basketball, build bikes and always know that if there is something wrong they can always talk to the youth worker there.
Seeing how strong the communities are, is what makes this so unique.
You will rarely see a child or a teenager sitting on their own in these places. And even if you do,  approach this young person! You will immediately see that other young people will approach both of you and create a shield around their friend.

How beautiful it is to see these young people grow up and return to tell you that this youth centres, or the afternoon music activities, was what kept them going! Their second home!

Youth Work should be a priority in all societies!
Our Youth is what will inherit this planet and it is our duty to invest in them, change their lives for the better and create a future with equal opportunities for everyone.
By providing the necessary support we shape a world our children and grandchildren will be proud to live in!
