The Drama Group

Through this drama group, I made a lot of friends
A very small group that helped us bond as a team early on.

Getting to know each other was amazing. Susan however, was not really joining us. She was not socializing, putting much effort and avoided challenging activities.

One activity however brought out the best in her.

We were asked to put on the an improvisation of situations that make us feel under pressure and uncomfortable. What is known as the Theater of the Oppressed. (See Blog: The Theater of the Oppressed)

That was the first time I actually saw her engaging in the improvisation and taking part in the story.
She was portraying a bully that was mistreating a vulnerable individual, 'a friend'.
She. Was. BRILLIANT.!

In the debriefing, everyone was commenting on how amazing she was. We couldn't resist and kept on asking her what happened and changed her on stage.

And she replied:

'In my life, I have met numerous people that treated me this way. That is how I know how to be a bully. I could relate to them and imitate their behaviour.'

We all were quiet. We were all in shock.

Seeing, through the eyes of the victim, what a bully is really like is eye opening!
Seeing how horrible these people were to her, but also the real, genuine situation through the victim's eyes was shocking.
No guessing, no theories just the brutal reality that kept on making me ask:

'WHY IS SOCIETY STILL FAILING TO STOP BULLYING?

An everyday problem that EVERYONE has experienced, but still does nothing to stop.
Why?
