How Would You React if You Saw a Small Symphony Orchestra Performing in The Street?

Have you ever been in a symphonic orchestra concert?
What did you think?
Was it too formal?
Did you enjoy the concert hall?
What did you think of the music, the soloist, the conductor?
Would you attend again?

How would you react if you saw a small orchestra performing in the streets?
Performing some Vivaldi for everyone to enjoy?
Would you stop and listen?
Would you take a moment to appreciate the music?
Would you recognize the song they perform?
How would that make you feel?

I think it is beautiful to see symphonic orchestra instrumentalists, getting out from their strict shell of rules, abandoning the concert hall in order to perform repertoire that everyone can enjoy.
When performing in the streets, the audience has the option to:
  1. Stand for a minute and listen
  2. Stay there for the whole performance
  3. And just walk by

They can be casually dressed (as well as the orchestra members), they can clap whenever they want and they can offer the buskers as much as they want to.

Classically trained musicians will of course comment on the street orchestra's playing... but when performing in the streets, they are not performing for the experts. They are performing for everyone.

I think it is beautiful to have the opportunity to hear classically trained musicians, perform standard repertoire for everyone to enjoy, without the strict rules of the concert hall.

Maybe, if more musicians are willing to get in the streets, the audience's mindset about what classicla music can shift. The audience can be more responsive and hopefully classical music can finally catch up with the modern times!

Keep on playing, keep on singing!
