How many times have you been asked the following questions?
- Are you seeing anyone?
- Do you have a boyfriend?
- Are you getting engaged?
- Are you getting married?
- When are you having your first child?
- When are you having your second child?
etc. etc. etc.
Society has a checklist in which, for some reason, we all have to comply to.
Society keeps on asking and demanding and expecting from us to follow their norms, stereotypes and ideologies.
When your reply, in any of the above questions, is
- No
- I don't want to
- This is not my priority
Everyone then starts to speculate why...
And their most common explanations are:
- There is something wrong with you
- You are a homosexual
No one ever things however that maybe:
- Your priorities are different
- You don't feel that you are destined to get married, have children etc.
- You don't want to settle for less than you deserve
- You might have been hurt in the past and it is very difficult for you to move on
- You might have health issues
and the list goes on and on.
Society will always judge and expect you to follow their stereotypes. And that is their problem.
Not yours.
Keep on dreaming, keep on fighting for all the things you want.
If at some point you feel ready to follow their norms, do so. But only IF YOU WANT TO.
Otherwise, raise your middle finger to society and keep on moving you own direction!
