Lady Malcolm: "You do not look like a man who has just become happily engaged."

Mr. Malcolm: "That's because I am not happily engaged. Ms Dalton has left."

Lady Malcolm: "You have ruined things, haven't you? And after all my efforts.

Mr. Malcolm: "What did you say?"

Lady Malcolm: " I am saying that I arranged for a tour of the rose garden at 3 o'clock. I assume it would give the two of you enough time alone together to come to some sort of betrothal."

Mr. Malcolm: "Why? Why did you not tell me this earlier?"

Lady Malcolm: "If I had known you were in such a great hurry to bungle things, you can be assured I would not have exercised such forbearance. What did you do to upset Ms Dalton so?"

Mr. Malcolm: "Oh, nothing so serious. I merely accused her of attempting to trap me into marriage.

Lady Malcolm: "I must say Jeremy I am quite disappointed in you"

Mr. Malcolm: "Mother"

Lady Malcolm: " I am well aware that you have a list. When I first learnt of it I was concerned that you would become arrogant and judgmental. But then I came to realize your list is in the nature of a shield. So many women have pursued you for your fortune that you did not want to give your heart to a woman that might prove unworthy. But I have never met such sincere lady as Ms Selina Dalton. It is difficult for you to let someone pass that guard that you have placed around your heart, but unless you do you are in danger of losing Ms Dalton's all together. Love can not be planned so carefully my dear, It will stir things up a bit. That is part of its charm".    

Mr Malcolm to Ms Dalton:
