When one is diagnosed with Cancer, a turbulence of emotions, feelings and thoughts conquer their mind.
According to Jessica M. Jones' article on Psychology today entitled "The Impact of Cancer on Mental Health", a cancer diagnosis mostly focuses on the physical aspects of the patient, however the mental aspects are as important.
According to the article, 20-25% of patients diagnosed with cancer along with 13-58% of personnel taking care of the patients and relatives, suffer from mental health issues such as depression, with a high risk of suicide.
Cancer Research UK through their website also mention that a cancer diagnosis can make the patient feel:
- Shock
- Denial
- Fear
- Anxiety
- Panic
- Guilt
- Blame
- Anger
- Sadness
- Depression
The questions that arise then are:
- How does a patient manage all these emotions? Read the blog here.
- How does one support their loved one when diagnosed with cancer? Read the blog here.
