Do You Know Who The Last Queen of Cyprus is?

During the 13th century, King James II of Cyprus was proposed to marry the Venetian aristocrat, Caterina Cornaro. King James' II aim was to put under Venetian rule the small island of Cyprus.

Cornaro accepted and their engagement took place in 1468.

Four years later, in 1472, Caterina Cornaro arrived in Cyprus.

Upon her arrival however, misfortune hit the monarchy since King James II fell really ill and died  in 1473. Cornaro, pregnant at the time, was named Queen. She gave birth to a baby boy who unfortunately died the following year.

Cornaro, the Last Queen of Cyprus, reigned until 1489 before she was forced by Venetian rule to return to Venice.

She died in Venice in 1510.
