As with all historical figures, the Last Queen of Cyprus, Caterina Cornaro, inspired artists to create artworks dedicated to her.
Numerous portraits and paintings depict her as queen, while at the same time, at her fall.
What is rather remarkable however is that long after her reign, composer Fromental Halèvy was so fascinated by her life that he composed the opera La Reine de Chypre in 1841 about the Venetian Queen's life.
The Opera is in 5 acts and even though it is not widely known, it is quite amazing to realize that the Last Queen of Cyprus still in modern times, captures the imagination of artists around the world.
