In this aria, Zerlina is trying to calm Masetto down, after Don Giovanni's "kind" offer to celebrate their wedding at his castle. Don Giovanni is the Master of the area and feels entitled to his wishes, especially when women are involved. Once he laid eyes on Zerlina, he wished to conquer her, something that Masetto understands immediately.
